If Phil Pilato had not been looking for something to fill time between classes at Brooklyn College, he'd probably be working somewhere else today. Instead he joined the college radio station and found his true love. The rest as they say is history.
"News is something that's in my blood," says Phil, whose father worked at the Daily News for 30 years. Phil joined WINS in 1982 as a Production Assistant.
He is now a Service Aide and weekend Editor as well as a part time Writer. Phil says, "People hear my name on WINS all the time and they always ask me 'What the heck is a Service Aide?'" Well, it's the right hand of the Editor, coordinating everything from traffic reports, to weather reports and reporters questions as well as directing the activities of the Production Assistants all at the behest of the Editor at the desk.
Phil has worked both on-the-air and behind the scenes at various stations and companies including ABC Radio, local and network, WCBS-Newsradio 88, and the British Broadcasting Corporation, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Satellite News Channel and the Cable News Network.
He also reviews films and video releases for a syndicated radio program.
Phil is a graduate of Brooklyn College, where he not only joined the radio station WBCR, he became the News Director and President of the station.
