5-Alarm Fire Destroys Bronx Businesses
|
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) -- A five-alarm fire damaged at least 12 stores in the Bronx on Monday morning.
1010 WINS AUDIO: Kathleen Maloney reports
Fire officials says the first call came in at 7:59 a.m., and the fifth alarm was about an hour and 45 minutes later.
The fire at 2139 White Plains Rd. quickly spread to nearby stores, injuring five people who were treated at the scene, the fire department said.
The fire started in a laundromat and quickly wiped out an entire block, 1010 WINS' Kathleen Maloney reported.
Many of the store owners do not have insurance, Maloney reported.
The fire department says 45 pieces of equipment and 200 firefighters battled the blaze for four hours.
