NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Police are looking for whomever shot a cab driver in the face on Long Island Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred at 1:30 a.m. outside the LIRR Station in Hempstead, located at 99 Columbia Street.

According to police, the cab driver was engaged in conversation with two other cab drivers when another car pulled up.

The taxi cab was blocking the road which enraged the driver of the other car, police said. Horns were honked and words were exchanged, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.

The 38-year-old cab driver eventually moved his car and the other car drove off.

The driver of the other car, a gray Toyota Corolla, returned a few minutes later, pulled up alongside the cab and fired into the cab -- striking the cabbie in the jaw, police said. 

The cab driver was rushed to Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola. He's listed in critical but stable condition.
