Police Arrest 6 Protesters at Lieberman's D.C. Office

WASHINGTON (AP/1010 WINS)  -- U.S. Capitol Police say six universal health care supporters have been arrested after protesting at Sen. Joseph Lieberman's office in Washington.

Sgt. Kimberly Schneider says officers arrested the protesters Tuesday morning at the Hart Senate Office Building. Schneider says the protesters were asked to leave Lieberman's seventh-floor office but refused to go away.

She says the protesters have been charged with unlawful entry.

Kevin Zeese, an organizer with Mobilization for Health Care for All, says the demonstrators urged Lieberman to stop accepting money from health insurance companies. Zeese says the group favors expanding Medicare as a way to provide health insurance for all Americans.

He says the protesters threw mock dollar bills printed with Lieberman's face from the seventh-floor balcony.

Lieberman is an independent from Connecticut.
