NEW YORK (AP) -- Education officials say they fined a Manhattan middle school principal $3,000 for asking teachers to tutor her daughter for free.
Erica Zigelman asked math, English and Spanish teachers from the school to give her child extra help at least nine times last year, education officials said.
The teachers involved did not feel pressure to help the girl, and didn't receive any incentives for doing so, according to a report by Special Schools Investigator Richard Condin. Zigelman didn't respond to a call seeking comment. She has been principal of the school since 2005.
City officials say the principal's actions violate city regulations that prohibit employees from using their positions for financial gain.
