Reporter Is Suing Opie & Anthony for Ear Damage

HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP/1010 WINS)  -- A reporter for WABC-TV who lives in Teaneck is suing radio shock jocks Opie & Anthony over a prank that he says left his ears ringing.

Anthony Johnson, also a former 1010 WINS reporter, was doing a live report about snow in 2005 when he says an Opie & Anthony fan waved a bumper sticker and blew an air horn.

The radio duo had recently launched an "Assault on the Media'' campaign that encouraged listeners to draw attention to their show during live news broadcasts.

Johnson says he missed two weeks of work and suffered permanent ear damage.

The suit also names the listener who carried out the prank and XM Satellite Radio.

In addition to Johnson, the lawsuit was filed on behalf of his wife, WNBC-TV reporter Pat Battle.

Opie and Anthony Sued
WABC-TV's Anthony Johnson was doing a live report about snow in 2005 when he says an Opie & Anthony fan waved a bumper sticker and blew an air horn. He is suing the shock jocks saying the incident has left his ears ringing. Should Opie and Anthony be held responsible?

opie and anthony
yes!
12/04/2007 1:33PM
Hell yes!
When a duo of so-called "personalities" encourage their "fans" to wreak havoc when reporters are trying to do their jobs, then they should indeed be held responsible for those morons who take them up on it. Opie and Anthony are nothing but a pair of idiotic, sophomoric boneheads, and if their fans are willing to do anything these creeps tell them to, then we can only hope the next stunt involves encouraging them to take a long walk off a short pier. The gene pool could do with a little diluting of this brand of "follower." Ugh!
12/04/2007 1:35PM
Another case of lawsuit mania
How are Opie and Anthony responsible for what one of their fans did? Also, I am sure that the fan did not point the horn directly at his ear so this means it was unintentional. I think the reporter should be ashamed of himself for even bringing the suit. Besides, neither Opie nor Anthony "sounded" the horn anyway.
12/04/2007 1:42PM
HOW?
This is a joke. Why would Opie & Anthony be responsible for what this fan did? If Ramone was involved I could see maybe them being responsible. If anyone is to blame it has to be Eric Nagel.

12/04/2007 2:06PM
YES
Yes they should be held responsible, but unfortunately this will make them more popular.
12/04/2007 2:07PM
What?
I can't hear you.
12/04/2007 2:07PM
Ouch! My ears!
Ears can be damaged very easily....yes, they are partly to blame...
12/04/2007 2:17PM
When will it end?
Is there proof that Opie or Anthony instructed someone to inflict harm? I think it's time to turn the table on reporters and start suing them for blocking sidewalks, intruding in persons private lives and, for never ever ever correcting information that they report that is proven wrong.
12/04/2007 2:20PM
Stupid
We need to get rid of stupid law suits. How is it Opie and Anthony's fault for a fan using an air horn?
12/04/2007 3:06PM
BaBa Booey!
Didn't do it!
12/04/2007 3:15PM

O & A Lawsuit
Guess we'll just have to LINGER LONGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12/04/2007 6:00PM
A Hole
Please they are not at fault. They never told anyone to blow a horn in someones ear. The fan took it upon himself to assault in that manner. Anywan hes really doing it because they make fun of his wife all the time. Lets get it straight
12/04/2007 6:10PM
Opie & ANthony Suit
When personalities irresponsibly encourage their fans to do something wrong they should be held accountable. Didn't Opie & Anthony learn anything from the St Patrick's incident. I guess not. It is therefore time for another reminder and round of punishment!
12/04/2007 6:10PM
