Service Cuts, Fare Increases Likely for MTA Riders

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Like it or not you're likely going to pay more next year to ride a bus and or train and in some cases you may be paying more for the privilege of waiting longer.

Stan Brooks reports.

The MTA board is scheduled to meet tomorrow and there is a real possibility that fares could go up even more than previously discussed.  Subway and bus fares could jump to $2.50 and maybe more. Several protests are scheduled today in advacne of the MTA's meeting.

According to the 'Daily News' express bus service could jump to $7.50 from $5.  The paper says Access-A-Ride, a transportation for people with disabilities who are unable to use public bus or subway service, fares could jump $4 or more.

There are also reports indicating the Z and W subway lines could be eliminated and cuts may come for the M and G lines. Service cuts are also likely on the LIRR and the METRO North.
