Stamford Police Probe Bogus 'Facebook' Amber Alert

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP/1010 WINS)  -- Police in Connecticut are trying to find the person that posted a bogus rumor on Facebook saying there was an Amber Alert for an abducted 3-year-old Stamford child.

Stamford police Lt. Sean Cooney says there was no kidnapping. He says people started calling the police department about the false report Thursday afternoon, and officials are trying to reassure the public that it's not true.

All 50 states use the Amber Alert system to help find missing children.

It's named after 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnapped and murdered in Texas in 1996.
