Raised in Central Jersey and currently living in Bergen County, Steve Sandberg considers the New Jersey Turnpike his backyard. Steve has been 1010 WINS' New Jersey Correspondent since October, 2004.
He started his career broadcasting Rutgers football and basketball on WRSU, the campus radio station. In addition, he wrote his own sports column in the daily student paper called "Enter the Sandman," inspired by one of his favorite songs. Yes, he is a Metallica fan.
By the end of his freshman year, he landed his first professional New York radio gig, working as a news desk assistant at WOR-AM. He went on to cover news for the station as well as four seasons of New York Jets and Giants football. Torn for several years between news and sports, Steve anchored and reported news for WRNJ-AM and FM in Hackettstown, New Jersey, worked for WFAN and broadcasted three seasons of The College of New Jersey football.
Steve finally dedicated himself to news while working for Metro Networks in New York, where he anchored morning drive on WWRL-AM and WNSW-AM and field reported for WABC-AM, WOR-AM, and the over 1,000 other Metro affiliates nationwide. In November of 2001, he was promoted out of the local bureau to become Metro's Network Correspondent based in New Jersey, where he covered the Garden State for three years before joining 1010 WINS.
Steve earned his bachelor's degree in Journalism and Political Science from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He is currently studying law at Rutgers Law School in Newark.
