Storm Causes Outages, Delays Across Long Island

LONG ISLAND (1010 WINS)  -- Heavy rain storms across Long Island left thousands of LIPA customers without power.

The utility reported 1,469 customers without power around 6 p.m.

The national weather service issued a flash flood watch for Long Island and the entire New York City metro area that will be in effect through Thursday.  Between one and three inches of rain was expected before noon.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 p.m.

The wet weather also caused a number of extensive delays on Long Island roads and on the LIRR.
