Suspects Questioned in Crown Heights Assault

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Two teens were being questioned by authorities in connection with the assault and robbery of a Jewish man in Crown Heights, sources told 1010 WINS.

Alon Sherman was attacked, robbed of his bicycle, watch and cell phone and left lying on the street unconscious, last week, cops said. Sherman was apparently going to the store to buy his infant brother baby formula.

Although the NYPD did not officially classify the incident as a bias crime, many Hasidic Jews have been protesting the assault over the last few days.

The area has recently seen tension between Jews and blacks who had lived together, usually peacefully, in the neighborhood for decades.

Namor Clarke, 17, and an unidentified 14-year-old are expected to be charged in the attack. A law enforcement source deemed the assault a "crime of opportunity" that was not racially motivated.
