Teen Dies of Injuries after Fall at Bear Mountain

VALHALLA, N.Y. (AP)  -- A 16-year-old honor roll student who fell off a cliff at New York's Bear Mountain State Park has died of her injuries.

Authorities say Kelly Cortesi was pronounced dead early Wednesday at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

State park police say the Putnam Valley girl apparently lost her footing and fell 29 feet onto a rocky shoreline at a pond known as Hell Hole.

The Putnam Valley school district has scheduled counseling sessions for students and staff.

State police say several other people have been hurt at the pond. It's known as a swimming hole even though swimming is forbidden there.

Bear Mountain State Park is about 50 miles north of Manhattan in Putnam Valley.
