NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Thousands of protesters gathered around City Hall Thursday to rally against budget cuts proposed by the mayor and the governor which would affect health care, education, and social services.
Al Jones Reports
Union workers waved signs that read "Protect Our Families," "Save Lives," and "Save Health care."
Hospital worker Timothy Butters believes the cuts are aimed at the wrong income bracket saying, "We got all these people getting all these big bonuses, where's that money coming from? It's coming from us tax payers."
Many of the protesters are worried the proposed budget cuts may put their jobs in jeopardy.
High school teacher Dennis Ruden says he wants to make sure stimulus money from the government goes where it is intended. "We want to make sure those funds that were targeted for education be spent on education."
Other groups also protested a proposed plan to shift nearly 3,000 children from kindergarten slots in daycare centers to public schools.
