Thruway Ramp Improves Access to Stewart Airport

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (1010 WINS/AP)  -- Travelers heading to the Stewart International Airport via the Thruway will have an easier time reaching their destination.

The state Thruway Authority has opened a new ramp off Interstate 87 to Interstate 84 at Newburgh. The airport is located just off I-84 in neighboring New Windsor.

Previously, drivers traveling on the Thruway had to get off at Exit 17 and use local roads to get to I-84.

Drivers began using some of the new ramps in July, but the final stages of the $140 million project were recently completed.

Stewart Airport is run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which also operates the LaGuardia, Kennedy and Newark airports.
