USGS: Minor Quake Recorded in Rural Albany County

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP/1010 WINS)  -- The U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed that a minor earthquake rattled sections of the Albany area earlier this week.

The USGS says the 2.9 magnitude quake occurred at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday, with its epicenter 18 miles southwest of Albany in the town of Berne.

The quake originated more than 4 miles underground and was also felt in neighboring Schoharie County. There were no reports of damage.

A magnitude 3 quake that occurred in the same area in May was felt as far away as Saratoga County.

A quake of magnitude 2.5 to 3 is the smallest generally felt by people.
