BAY SHORE, N.Y. (AP) -- Police were trying to determine the identity of a woman who was seriously injured early Saturday morning when she was struck by a car in Long Island.
The incident happened on West Main Street in Bay Shore.
Suffolk County police said the woman apparently was crossing the street when a vehicle hit her. The driver fled the scene.
The victim was rushed to a hospital, where she was in in critical condition.
The woman is described as being in her 40s and about 5-feet-6-inches tall. She is black with short dark hair and has a thin build. She was wearing denim shorts and a white shirt.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
