Video Catches Thief Choking, Robbing Elderly Woman

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Police are hoping surveillance video will help them find the person who attacked an elderly woman in a Brooklyn elevator last Thursday.

The video shows a man following an 85-year-old woman into a building located at 1015 Washington Ave. in Wingate. He then follows her into an elevator.

Sonia Rincon reports

Right before the woman exits the elevator, the man can be seen on video choking her from behind and then throwing her to the ground.

He grabs the victim's purse and leaves her lying on the floor of the elevator. He can be seen in the video fleeing with her purse and cane.

Police think the same guy may have carried out similar attacks and are asking the public for help in identifying him.

If you have any information, please call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential. Persons with information may be eligible for a reward of up to $12,000, police said.
