Vendor Recovering from Crash at 'Law & Order' Courthouse

NEW YORK (AP)  -- A coffee vendor is recovering from injuries he sustained last month when an out-of-control car smashed into his cart and pinned him against the steps of a landmark Manhattan courthouse.

Jaweed Naseri, of Queens, nearly died in early April when a car jumped the curb in front of the State Supreme Court building.

He suffered second-degree burns from the scalding coffee that spilled in the wreck and also injured his arms and hip. He still needs surgery for a broken nose.

Naseri tells The New York Times that all he remembers about the accident is fighting for his life.

People who work at the courthouse raised about $1,000 to help with his medical bills, but he still owes thousands more.

The courthouse is best known to out-of-towners for appearing in episodes of the TV show ``Law & Order.''
