Woman Hit by Truck, Killed in Greenwich Village

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- A 28-year-old woman was hit by a truck and killed Tuesday morning in Greenwich Village.

The accident happened at about 7:15 a.m. at a construction site at the intersection of 6th and W. Houston Street, police said.

The woman was reportedly knocked out of her shoes and pinned as she tried to cross Houston. She was pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Hospital.

People who live and work near the area said it is particularly difficult to navigate.

City Councilman Alan Gerson said he has filed a lawsuit to try and stop the construction at the area because of the dangers it poses.

The woman's death marked the fourth at that spot in the last two years, Gerson said.
