MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) -- A Long Island woman who was riding in a car, when it was involved in a two-car crash in Middle Island has died from her injuries. Suffolk County Police say Lauren Fennell, 21, of Selden died at 1:36 a.m. Friday at Stony Brook University Hospital, about 22 hours after being brought in from the accident.
Police say she was a passenger in a car driven by Michael Echan, 23, of Medford when they were hit at the intersection of East Bartlett Road and Route 25 by a car driven by Jorge Martinez, 23, of Middle Island.
Both drivers were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. Echan was admitted for head and chest injuries. Martinez was released after being treated for a broken wrist and other injuries.
Martinez was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
