Woman Who Drove Miles on Wrong Side of Tappan Zee Bridge Admits DWI

GRAND VIEW, N.Y. (AP)  -- A 28-year-old woman has admitted she was drunk when she drove several miles on the wrong side of the New York state Thruway, including most of the way across the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Kathleen Beaton of Eastchester registered more than twice the legal blood-alcohol limit when state troopers finally pulled her over. She has now pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated.

Police say that before dawn on Sunday, June 1, Beaton headed north on the southbound lanes of the Thruway near Elmsford. She continued the wrong way through the bridge's toll barriers on the Westchester County side and was near the Rockland County end when she was stopped.

Beaton is to be sentenced Nov. 24 on Monday night's guilty plea in Grand View Village Court.
