MINEOLA, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- The Long Island Rail Road is operating normally on Friday after a rough Thursday evening commute.
Service was finally restored late Thursday night after the weather shut down trains and caused problems for thousands of travelers.
The Main Line service was restored east of Hicksville on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson lines around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Service was temporarily suspended in both directions through Valley Stream due to a lightning strike which affected the LIRR's third rail power. Commuters were stranded for hours at stations while crews worked to get the trains up and running.
