ASBURY PARK, N.J. -- An 18-year-old Asbury Park high school student has died after being shot in the head earlier this week near a city school.
Tylik Pugh was shot Wednesday morning a block from a city middle school, leading education officials to close schools across the district until Monday out of fears the shooting could lead to reprisal attacks.
Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin told The Asbury Park Press for Friday's newspapers that Pugh died Thursday night and that no arrests had yet been made in connection with his death. Prosecutors did not return messages seeking comment Friday morning.
The investigation into Pugh's death is continuing. City Manager Terence Reidy told the newspaper he was confident the person who shot Pugh would be found.
``All of our resources and the county resources are involved in this search,'' Reidy said.
Immediately after the shooting, the city's middle and high schools were partially locked down as a safety precaution. Officials then decided to close all the district's schools, with nearly 3,000 students, until Monday.
