Custody Battle Over Girl Found Barefoot After Mom's Slaying

Family members of the little girl who was abandoned barefoot on the street after her mother was killed are still battling over her custody.

Renee Escalera, a cousin of little Valery Lozada, says she misses the little girl very much and would love to adopt and raise her after the girl's mother's death last year. Click here to read the previous story on Valery from 1010wins.com

Lozada, who's now 5 years old, lived with Escalera for nine months before a judge sent her to live with paternal relatives in a Chicago suburb.

Now Escalera says she can't get word of how Valery is doing.

Escalera calls the girl's removal an "injustice." She says child welfare workers received a report that the Escaleras were abusing the girl, but officials found the report to be unfounded.
