LIRR Agrees to Keep Suffolk's Rt. 39 Open in Daytime
|
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) -- Good news for Long Island drivers.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy announced today that the Long Island Rail Road has agreed to do grade crossing work at County Road 39 during the overnight hours this weekend. That will keep the East End's busiest east-west roadway open during peak traffic hours.
Levy says County Road 39 will be closed this Saturday, November 4, from 8 p.m. and will re-open Sunday, November 5 at 10 a.m. for the railroad to perform their necessary grade crossing work.
During the roadwork, westbound drivers will be detoured from County Road 39 at Seven Ponds Road, then south on David Whites Lane to pick up the road again. Eastbound drivers will be detoured at David Whites Lane, heading south to Hampton Road/Montauk Highway.
