NEW YORK (AP) -- Two people were run over at an intersection in separate accidents on Saturday.
The first victim was a 24-year-old woman who was crossing under a walk light at the Brooklyn intersection, which has a two-way road that cuts through another two-way road and leads into a one-way road. She was hit by a car around 12:30 p.m. but wasn't seriously hurt and escaped with just some bad bruises, friends said.
About 90 minutes later, while residents of the neighborhood were still talking about the woman's accident, a girl coming out of a supermarket was run over by a cement truck.
``The truck just came right on top of her,'' witness Jose Alberto said. ``It flattened the shopping cart and ran her whole side over.''
The driver of the truck and witnesses ran to help the 11-year-old girl, who had to be hospitalized.
Residents said the intersection, at Crescent Street and Liberty Avenue, is notoriously confusing and chaotic, making it dangerous to go out for a cup of coffee.
The woman and the girl suffered minor injuries and were expected to recover, police said. No charges were filed in either incident, but the driver of the truck was issued a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian, they said.
