First Snowfall of the Season in New York Area

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Many New Yorkers and New Jerseyans woke up Sunday to their first snow of the season, as a storm that socked the Midwest with moisture left snow on parts of the area.

``It's not a bad way to start the season,'' said Joe Orlando, a spokesman for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, which Sunday was salting the roads but not plowing them of snow. ``Compared to what's happening in the Midwest, we've kind of got it easy right now.''

The heaviest snowfall was expected in areas north and west of New York City where the National Weather Service was forecasting 3-6 inches by the time the storm moved out.

Crews were out across the area salting the roads and plowing roadways, but several car accidents related to the weather have been reported.

Folks are being advised to stay home if they can and drive slowly if they're on the roads.
