Man Convicted of Murdering Family of Five in Fishkill

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP)  -- A Dutchess County jury deliberated for less than five hours yesterday before finding Mark Serrano guilty of murdering a family of five earlier this year.

Serrano, 30, is one of two men accused of killing Manuel and Tina Morey and their three sons ages 6, 10 and 13, and setting their house in Fishkill on fire.

Prosecutors say Serrano, of Fishkill, and 32-year-old Charles Gilleo Jr., of Hopewell Junction, went to the Morey home in the early hours of Jan. 19 to steal cocaine from Manuel Morey, and the two men wound up slaughtering the family.

Serrano was found guilty of more than 40 charges in all, including first- and second-degree murder. He faces a life sentence when he's sentenced Dec. 18.

Gilleo's trial is scheduled to start next month.
