Sen. Schumer Visits All 62 NYS Counties Again

WASHINGTON (AP)  -- It came down to the wire, but Senator Charles Schumer managed to visit all 62 counties in New York state before the end of the year.

Since he became a New York senator after winning the 1998 election, the Democrat has visited every county each year he has been in office. Back then, the former New York City congressman pledged to complete the annual statewide tour to counter doubts that he would pay much attention to upstate New York.

But Schumer's new responsibilities in Congress nearly derailed his end-of-the-year tradition of getting in the last counties before New Year's Day. Congress worked late and Schumer has new leadership duties as he runs the Senate Democrats' national campaign efforts.

He completed his 62-county tour yesterday when he visited Rensselaer County to talk about the need for more federal dollars for sewer systems.
