NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- A 63-year-old New York City woman is dead in a hit-and-run on Long Island.
Police say Lucrecia Jara was crossing from east to west on Covert Avenue at Third Avenue in New Hyde Park when she was hit by a dark-colored sedan Sunday at about 4:50 p.m.
Police say the car then fled the scene of the accident, heading southbound on Covert Avenue.
Jara was taken to a nearby hospital with head and torso injuries. Police say a staff doctor pronounced her dead at 6:41 p.m.
Police are seeking the driver of the car that struck Jara. Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is asked to call
