NEW YORK (AP) -- Security experts were analyzing a suspicious package leaking white powder that was left in CNN's mailbox at U.N. headquarters Friday, U.N. officials said.
"A suspicious package was found and it is being analyzed,'' U.N. associate spokesman Yves Sorokobi said.
Security guards closed off the surrounding area, including The Associated Press office, as well as a corridor off the main lobby near a security office where the package was taken for examination by U.N. security officials and New York police experts.
Hazardous material officials in yellow suits could be seen along the corridor with large orange plastic bags. Security experts said that some U.N. staff may have to be decontaminated.
U.N. associate spokesman Farhan Haq said there was still no word on what the powder was.
