MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) -- A Long Island woman suspected of drowning her three children in a bathtub has made her first court appearance since the deaths last month, pleading not guilty to murder charges.
Leatrice Brewer, 27, quietly uttered "not guilty" Thursday to a grand jury indictment charging her with three counts each of first- and second-degree murder.
Brewer was arrested Feb. 24 after telling police she had drowned her children, all younger than 6, in their New Cassel apartment. After calling 911, Brewer jumped out her second-floor apartment window, injuring her back.
Her defense attorney had no comment Thursday. Brewer is due back in court March 27.
