Man Escapes N.J. Psychiatric Hosp.; Gov. Not Told

WINSLOW, N.J. (AP)  -- Another patient has escaped from Ancora Psychiatric Hospital in Camden County.

But Gov. Jon S. Corzine wasn't told about it when he made a late-night visit to the hospital, which has had some high-profile escapes recently.

Human Services spokeswoman Ellen Lovejoy tells the Asbury Park Press the hospital didn't think the latest incident rose to the level where the governor needed to be told.

She says the governor isn't routinely informed every time a patient ready for discharge doesn't return from a break.

Rahim Harris failed to return from an authorized leave on March 9. The 28-year-old paranoid schizophrenic from Brick was committed last year after trying to stab his mother with a screwdriver.
