HACKENSACK, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- The Hackensack Fire Department may lose their Emergency Medical Technicians.
Officials met at city hall Tuesday night to discuss the situation.
Opponents of a city plan to transfer emergency medical services to Hackensack University Medical Center said Tuesday night that the deal was motivated by a $1 million payment from the hospital.
The accusations surfaced during more than an hour of heated public discussion of the arrangement, under which eight emergency medical technicians will be laid off. City officials say Hackensack will save $600,000 a year. Read more from NorthJersey.com...
The Hackensack Uniformed Fire Officers Association and International Association of Fire Fighters were trying to stop the termination too.
If the plan happened, city officials would have transfered the eight city paid EMTS and merged them with workers hired by Hackensack University Medical Center.
