NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Anorexia Nervosa attacks more than one out of every hundred women. Teens and young adults are most vulnerable.
There is no doubt there is a strong psychological component associated with the condition.
The major problem associated with anorexia is a distorted body image.
A person with anorexia often thinks they’re overweight, despite being thin…sometimes dramatically underweight. There is also no doubt that outside pressure like those from the media play a role.
But could people inherit a gene that increases their chances of developing anorexia?
There has been research involving more than 30,000 Swedish twins and it suggests there might be a link. There are warning signs that anorexia could be a potential problem. For instance, anxiety or depression early in life could be a tip that the problem is going to occur.
The most important point is that anorexia needs professional attention. You can’t treat this on your own.
