HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- A police officer on patrol in Hempstead was approached by a man who said someone had been shot in his basement.
When the officer arrived at the scene on Linden Place early Saturday morning, he found the victim with a gunshot wound to his head, Nassau County Police said. The man, identified as Andre Chambers, 23 of Roosevelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
