FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Some residents of Freehold Township and Colts Neck are upset after a state Fish and Wildlife officer shot to death some wild turkeys near the border of the two towns.
Local residents had complained about the birds interfering with traffic and acting aggressively.
But then there were protests after three turkeys were killed Friday.
Tony McBride, a biologist for the state, says the officer followed department protocols. He said trapping isn't a good option when it isn't winter.
Victor Amato with the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals also said the officer followed the rules.
