Bloomberg Plans for Solar Panels on City Buildings

WASHINGTON (AP)  -- Mayor Michael Bloomberg plans to put solar panels on city-owned buildings in all five boroughs.

The mayor is offering the proposal at Georgetown University, where he is giving a speech to kick off Newsweek's environment leadership conference.

Bloomberg says the city will seek bids for private solar developers to place solar panels on 11 potential city sites, including five schools and a community college.

The announcement is part of the mayor's agenda to modernize the city's infrastructure and improve New Yorkers' energy efficiency.
