Dr. Brian McDonough on Caring for A Loved One

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- There are numerous medical specialties. So, it is not surprising that there are a wide variety of medical organizations.

That can be a source of bureaucracy, but it can also be a source of excellent medical advice on a wide variety of subjects.

For example, one of the latest recommendations comes from The American Academy of Family Physicians (one of those groups). It applies to people who are dealing with a difficult psychological problem; caring for a loved one who needs extensive help.

This can be physically and emotionally draining.

One of the biggest issues is that many forget to monitor your own well-being.

The organization lists some key signs of stress; feeling unusually angry or resentful, withdrawing from social activities, anxiety, irritability and sleeping too much or having difficulty sleeping.

If these signs feel familiar to you, talk with your physician.
