NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- It is called Saliva Divinorum and it’s getting a great deal of attention these days. You may not have heard of it but for a growing number of people looking for a quick high, it is a legal, but no less dangerous option.
Native to Mexico and still grown there, Saliva Divinorum is generally smoked but can also be chewed or made into a tea and drunk.
On the street, it is called “sally-d” or “magic mint” and it is a hallucinogen that gives abusers a so-called out-of-body experience which can last an hour.
Two years ago, it was implicated in the death of a Delaware teen. As many as twenty-four states have placed bans on it or are considering tight restrictions.
In the Delaware case, the boy’s family said their son used it because it was legal. The key point here is that your body doesn’t know if something is legal or not. It just reacts to the chemical.
