NEW YORK (AP) -- A group of protesters rallied outside Madison Square Garden in Manhattan Wednesday night to protest the Sean Bell verdict.
The crowd of about 50 protesters briefly blocked off a busy intersection at 7th Avenue and 34th Street shortly before 7 p.m. Port Authority police were able to persuade the protesters to move, and they regrouped on Seventh Avenue in front of the arena.
Protesters carried numbered signs signifying the amount of shots fired in the Bell case and chanted "No Justice, No Peace."
The protest was organized by the Street Organizing Coalition and took place as comedian Chris Rock performed at the Garden.
Last week, a Queens judge acquitted three NYPD officers in the fatal 50-shot killing of Bell on his wedding day. Two of his friends were seriously wounded.
The officers said they believed the men had a gun and feared for their lives; Bell and his two friends were unarmed.
A number of protests have erupted around the city since the verdict was announced last Friday.
On Tuesday, Reverend Al Sharpton held a meeting to rally supporters and to organize for other protests and acts of civil disobedience.
