NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Two vacant buildings in the Bronx caught fire Friday and the flames quickly spread to two neighboring buildings, officials said.
The fire broke out around 5:30 p.m and left several families homeless. No one was seriously hurt.
The blaze was reportedly labeled suspicious by arson investigators.
Neighbors said the abandoned houses were filled with squatters and illegal activity.
Authorities say five firefighters were hurt, but all their injuries are described as minor.
More than 135 firefighters battled the three-alarm blaze on Washington Avenue near the East Tremont area for about two and a half hours. The fire was under control shortly after 8 p.m.
