Ex-School Volunteer Accused of Inappropriate Contact with Students
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Brooklyn school volunteer accused of having inappropriate interaction with students has been charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said Wednesday.
Colin Leahy, 23, maintained a relationship with a 12-year-old male student through text messages at PS 236 in Brooklyn -- many of which allegedly contained sexual references, according to a news release from the Office of Special Commissioner of Investigation Richard Condon.
Leahy also took two 10-year-old students to the movies twice and allegedly made sexual comments to one of them, according to the release.
Leahy is no longer eligible to volunteer at PS 236 and has since been placed on the Department of Education’s ineligible list.
Leahy was a contestant on season 3 of "American Idol."
