The officer told police he was approached by Williams who threatened him just after 12:30 a.m. Friday near 233rd Street and White Plains Road. Police say Williams initially walked away, but returned a short time later with a 9mm handgun and fired numerous times.

Police say the officer returned fire, but it's not clear if Williams was wounded in the shooting. A bullet grazed the officer's head. He was taken to Jacobi Hospital, and is listed in stable condition.

Williams allegedly fled on foot, but the handgun was recovered at the scene.

Williams has also been charged with felony assault, criminal possession of a weapon, ciminal use of a firearm, and assault on a police officer.
