Daughter Interrupts Man Trying to Drown Wife

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP)  -- A Morristown man tried to drown his wife as their daughter interrupted him.

Kleber Cordova is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, police said.

His wife, Eliana Torres, was found unresponsive in the bathtub in their apartment. Emergency responders were able to revive her and took her to Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Cordova initially said his wife accidentally submerged herself as she took a bath before work, police said.

But the couple's 8-year-old daughter told officers her mother usually took showers _ and did so at night. The girl also said she saw her parents struggling in the bathroom.

Police found a garbage bag full of the woman's wet clothes.

Cordova is held on $1 million bail.

Torres is in critical condition.
