WASHINGTON (AP) -- The New York City area's transit and port systems will see a boost in security funding from what was expected just a few months ago.
The Department of Homeland Security is due to announce Friday that New York will get more than $175 million in transit anti-terror grants, up from the roughly $153 million expected in February. Port security dollars are set to rise to $45.5 million, up about $2 million from what was expected.
Long Island Rep. Peter King says the steady increase in federal funds to prevent terrorism shows that federal authorities understand New York is the nation's main target, and that local officials have well-run anti-terror programs in place. King is the highest-ranking Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee.
