N.J. Eliminating P.M. Hours for Motor Vehicle Commission

TRENTON, N.J. (AP)  -- New Jersey is dropping one customer-friendly feature at its 45 Motor Vehicle Commission offices: staying open late.

The last day with evening hours will be June 19.

The move comes amid a tight state budget. The MVC says it will save about $4 million next year because of the change.

The agencies will still be open for business on Saturday mornings, and vehicle inspection stations will retain their evening hours.

Each office currently stays open until 7:30 p.m. one night a week. They'll all close at 4:30 p.m. in four weeks.
