Bronx Man Indicted in Police Officer Shooting

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Prosecutors say a Bronx man has been indicted on an attempted murder charge after getting into a gunfight with an off-duty police officer who was walking his dog.

A bullet grazed Officer Antwane Reeves during the May 9 confrontation, leaving a gash on his head.

Prosecutors say 26-year-old Michael Williams fired numerous times with a 9mm handgun. Reeves returned fire but didn't hit Williams.

Williams has said the officer threatened him first. A message left with his lawyer was not immediately returned.

Williams is due to be arraigned July 28 on attempted murder, assault and weapon possession charges.
