NYC's Embattled Congressman Back Out in Public

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Embattled Congressman Vito Fossella made forays back into the political scene over the weekend, marching in a parade and appearing at a Conservative Party dinner in his political base of Staten Island.

The Republican had largely been out of sight since his arrest on drunken driving charges earlier this month. The arrest was followed by a revelation that Fossella had fathered an out-of-wedlock child.

This weekend's appearances raised some speculation that Fossella might decide to run for re-election, despite some calls for his resignation.

Fossella deflected reporters' questions about his political future as he appeared Saturday in a Memorial Day parade. He said he participates in the event every year, ``and this year is no different.''

Guests say Fossella got a round of applause at Friday's Conservative Party dinner.
