NEW YORK (AP) -- Firefighters say they have rescued three people trapped by rough, rising waters on rocks off Coney Island.
The Fire Department says three firefighters waded and swam 60 to 75 feet from shore Saturday evening to get to the three, all about 16 to 20 years old.
Firefighters say the three, one male, two female, have been taken to hospitals with minor injuries. A bystander who tried to help also has been taken to a hospital.
The Fire Department says the three apparently went out on the rocks near Surf Avenue and West 16th Street when the tide was low, and they became stranded as it rose.
